![]() ![]() ![]() The rubber was attached to a piece of wood, which I drilled a handle into. I found a thick piece of rubber and started to carve a design into it with a soldering tool. The real fabric is made from a woodblock print, so my first real attempt started with a stamping method. I looked into custom-printing fabric, screen-printing, and hand-painting fabric. I made a Photoshop version of the pattern that I could print out. I decided that I had to have fabric close to the real thing, or I just couldn’t make the replica – I would never be happy with it. I started re-obsessing over this costume in March 2011. Also, the calico prints were very expensive per yard. ![]() The closest I ever got was a cotton print that I dyed darker blue, but I really disliked what the dye did to the cotton fabric (it made it look very cheap). I searched, and searched, and searched for a fabric that would resemble it. I started obsessing over the Wishing gown almost two years ago. I’m not sure if I encountered so many obstacles on a costume before – and I’ve had quite a few problems on EACH of my costumes I’ve recreated. ![]()
